People & Search Tools

Overview

The People section provides search and analysis tools for exploring ancestors, surnames, and family connections across your DNA matches. These tools work with the match and tree data you've gathered.

Available Tools

• Common Ancestors (Gold) — Automatically detects ancestors appearing in multiple matches' family trees. Helps identify shared lineage between you and your matches.
• My Trees — Upload GEDCOM files and compare your family tree against ancestors found in your DNA matches' trees.
• Kits — Search across all gathered kits by surname, ancestor name, individual name, or tree data. Search all kits at once or drill into specific kits.

Prerequisites

These tools work best when you have gathered tree data from your DNA services. The more tree data available, the more connections these tools can identify.
